The Saugerties Police Department will hold a pedestrian safety forum Wednesday May 27 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center, 207 Market St.
The forum is intended to discuss pedestrian safety and gather community input on the best way to improve safety, whether by stricter enforcement of laws or other means.
Police Chief Joseph Sinagra believes the forum is necessary because some have expressed concern that greater enforcement of jaywalking laws would have a negative impact on village tourism. “It is my belief that we, the police and the community, through this forum can mutually develop a strategy that is equitable; one that supports both commerce and the preservation of life,” said Sinagra.
