A camera and two license plate readers will be installed in the village in the coming weeks.
The camera will be installed at the traffic light at the Main and Washington intersection. Police chief Joseph Sinagra said the location was chosen because it would provide coverage for Cahill Elementary School.
It the third camera to be installed in the village. Other cameras are located at the intersections of Main and Partition and Main and Market streets.
The license plate readers will be installed at Main and Washington streets and Ulster Ave. and High St. Such readers are programmed to search for stolen cars, cars involved in Amber alerts, getaway cars and cars belonging to people wanted on outstanding warrants or driving with suspended licenses.
“But Big Brother will not be watching,” said Sinagra. “We will not use it to track residents through the village or anything like that.”
