Saugerties police responded to a 911 call for an overdose at 20 Ulster Ave. at 5:10 p.m. today, March 20.
Police found the victim, a 24-year-old woman, on the second floor, unconscious and cyanotic (bluish skin due to oxygen deprivation).
Police Chief Joseph Sinagra administered Narcan, which reverses the effects of opiate use, to the victim and administered oxygen through the use of an Ambu-Bag. After moving the victim to an ambulance, the victim began to slowly gain consciousness and started breathing on her own. The victim was transported via DIAZ Ambulance to the Kingston Hospital.
The Saugerties Police began carrying Narcan in July of 2014, and to date Saugerties Police Officers have administered Narcan four times, all having successful outcomes.
