The Town of Lloyd Economic Development Committee (EDC) has announced the installation of “Welcome to Highland — Home to the Walkway Over the Hudson” signage at the northern and southern town lines on Route 9W. The signs were designed and crafted by Ken Watson of Watson’s Signs of Highland. Installation was accomplished with the assistance of members of the EDC committee in early January.
EDC president Charles Glasner said, “Since the Walkway Over the Hudson opened, the tourism potential as a stimulator of economic development has risen dramatically. We want to be sure visitors know where to begin their exploration of the Hudson Valley.”
The committee, consisting of Peter Brooks, Charles Glasner, Mikki Meyer, Gary Pregno, Kathy Tallman, Alan Van De Bogart and Vivian Wadlin, have met monthly for the past year to work on the signage and other projects.
The signs were paid from the EDC budget for 2014 and are just one of the accomplishments of the EDC committee this past year. The committee also compiled a resource book of available commercial properties with relevant information on each parcel and contact information on owners or real estate agents. The book is regularly updated and available in the town supervisor’s office.
An important project that will commence in 2015 is a business improvement contest aimed at jump starting additional façade improvements of commercial buildings within the Town of Lloyd and hopefully boost civic pride. The committee will be seeking funding for this project from individuals and businesses in the town. There is already a matching grant available and interested business owners or property owners need a written plan to seek any of the grant monies. More information is available from the EDC.
The committee will also be awarding certificates in 2015 in recognition to commercial properties which upgraded their façades in 2014. Nominations may be sent to the EDC in care of the Town Hall, 12 Church Street, Highland, NY 12528.
You can contact the EDC by calling the supervisor’s office at (845) 691-2735.
