The third annual Christmas tree bonfire at Hasbrouck Park in New Paltz was held last Saturday, January 10. Fire chief Kevin Maguire and members of the New Paltz Volunteer Fire Department tended the fire. Smoke poured up Plattekill Avenue as a large crowd gathered in a circle and cheered on a roaring flame. Next to them was an impressive pile of Christmas trees. Even yards away from the center of the fire, one could hear the hiss and crackle of thousands of evergreen needles bursting into flame. The event also featured music, food, hot chocolate, cider and marshmallow roasting.
