A public meeting organized to rally opposition to the oil pipeline proposed by Pilgrim Pipeline Holdings, LLC, to carry fracked crude oil through the town of Saugerties will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Senior Center on the corner of Robinson and Market streets.
The proposed pipeline would carry crude oil from Albany down the New York State Thruway corridor to refineries in New Jersey.
Representatives from Riverkeeper, Citizens for Local Power, the Coalition Against Pilgrim Pipeline and local officials will be on hand to answer questions and explore actions that can be taken by residents.
Saugerties landowners who have already been approached by Pilgrim for permission to access their property for an initial survey are encouraged to attend.
Information on the resolutions passed by other towns along the proposed thruway route calling on the NYS Thruway Authority to reject use of the right-of-way to carry this crude oil and asking Gov. Cuomo and the DEC to oppose the pipeline will be available. More information from Sue Rosenberg for Coalition Against Pilgrim Pipeline is available at (845) 246-3499 or cappsny@gmail.com.
