Register by Friday, Aug. 1 and become a member of the Saugerties Lifespring Adult Learning Community, which offers a broad range of non-credit six-week courses on a variety of topics. The fall session will begin Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Woodstock Jewish Congregation at Route 212 and Glasco Turnpike and run through Nov. 12. The $60 fee entitles members to take up to three courses in the fall semester and three in the spring along with special events throughout the year.
Lifespring is a self-supporting volunteer effort sponsored by the town of Saugerties, open to people from surrounding communities. Lifespring currently has a limited number of membership openings. There will no longer be late registrations or half-year memberships for spring only.
The 75-minute classes are held each Wednesday, three sessions per day, ABC.
A session (9:30–10:45 a.m.)– Saugerties: Preserving Local History; All That Jazz (music appreciation); The Contemporary American Short Story; Tai-Chi (exercise class)
B session (11–12:15 p.m.)– Wildlife in the Hudson Valley; Post-War U.S. Foreign Policy: Continuity or Change? (Part II, attending Part I not necessary); Listening to Music; Social Inequality; You’ve Got Rhythm (percussion class, drums provided)
C session (1:15–2:30 p.m.)– Work, Workers and Unions: Building America (Part I); Visions of the Universe: The Hubble Telescope and Space Exploration; Listening to the Body; Women at History’s Turning Points: Their Lives, Actions and Songs (Part II, attending Part I not necessary); Exercising with “Smartbells” Light Weights.
Bonus class: Film Series: Reexamining Our Lives. Tuesday nights Oct. 14, 21 and 28, 7:30 p.m. at Saugerties Library.
