Wade deserves credit for crosswalk improvements
Bravo to the first step in Complete Streets in the village of Saugerties! This is the recently installed brick crosswalk at the entrance to Livingston St. at Market St. I know that one person responsible is Alex Wade, who patiently labored with NYSDOT over many years to make this first step for pedestrian safety in the village.
Alex is one of my heroes who was deeply involved in rescuing the lighthouse. He is also a talented architect whose work should be better known. He has brought his extensive knowledge to bear in the public interest, constantly pushing change in a progressive direction. I hope he will continue for many years.

Garden tour worked thanks to generous support
On Saturday, July 12, over 300 people visited the gardens on the tenth annual Secret Gardens Tour in Saugerties, which benefitted the Boys & Girls Club and the Ulster Country SPCA. Despite advance concerns and rumors about traffic problems due to the concert, there were no issues with traffic on the tour and everything went smoothly.
Our sincere thanks to all those involved with the tour. Without question, the biggest and most appreciative thank you goes to the gardeners – Rich & Diane Brandes, Judith Spektor & Barry Benepe, Tamara & Joe DiMattio, Ed Fondiller & Kate Doran, Judy & Barry Greco and Bo van den Assum, who worked many, many long hours in their gardens to make them as perfect as possible for the day of the tour.
Our thanks and gratitude to the many businesses and individuals who helped by sponsoring the tour: The Board of the Ulster County SPCA, The Center of Health, Lazy Swan Golf Course, Methods Tooling & Manufacturing, The Naccarato Insurance Agency, Saugerties Animal Hospital, Saugerties Farmers Market, Sinnott Associates, Town & Country Liquors, Betsy & Doug Wilson, Aqua Jet Pools and Spas, Augustine Nursery, Boice’s Farm & Garden Stand, Lynn S. Thanks also to those who provided goods or services: Adam’s Fairacre Farms, Annarella Restaurant, Paul Backstrom, ColorPage, Donna Dittus, English Garden, Herzog’s Home & Paint Center, David Hitchison, Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, M&T Bank, Mirabella Restaurant, Kristen Vale Mosack, Renwick Clifton House B&B, Sawyer Savings, Herve Senequier, Smith Hardware, Staples, Sue’s Restaurant & 9W Car Wash, Ulster Federal Credit Union and Sue Worthman. We also extend our sincere thanks to this newspaper and to Channel 23 Lighthouse TV for publicizing the tour. The tour could not happen without the help of the 26 volunteers who assisted at the gardens and at registration on the day of the tour. Our thanks to each and every one of them. Lastly, thanks to all the people who bought tickets to view the beautiful gardens. We hope you all had a wonderful time.
We couldn’t have done it these ten years without all of you.
Thank you all!
