This year’s candidates for the American Legion’s New York Boys’ State Program are Nicholas Skalla, son of Dennis Skalla and Jennifer Polcari; Robert Cologero, son of Robert and MaryEllen Cologero; and Curtis Jorgensen, son of John and Kim Jorgensen. The alternate is Emlyn Ellerby, son of Ian and Lisa Ellerby.

Boys’ State is a leadership program in which high school juniors take part in a practical government course, designed to impart a working knowledge of the structure of government in young citizens and to impress upon them the fact that their government is what they make it. Only young men with outstanding qualifications in leadership, character, scholarship, service and citizenship who have a serious attitude toward intensive citizenship training are selected.

This year, over 1,000 young men from across the state will join together at the State University at Morrisville, New York beginning on Friday, June 27.
