The deadline to register to vote or change address is fast approaching, and as the saying goes, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain…
For registration, applications must be postmarked no later than Oct. 11 and received by the board of elections no later than Oct. 16. In-person registration at Board of Elections deadline is also Oct. 11.

Forms are available at the Saugerties Public Library (91 Washington Ave.), post office (111 Market St.), town clerk (4 High St.), board of elections (284 Wall St., Kingston) and on the board of election website (also a source of further information).
Election Day is Nov. 5. All elected town offices, county legislature seats and the county comptroller are on the ballot, as well as a proposition to allow seven full-scale, Las Vegas-style casinos in New York State.
To register to vote in New York State you must:
- be a U.S. citizen;
- be 18 years old;
- live at your present address at least 30 days before an election;
- not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction and;
- not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
