plan 9 @The Bardavon will present Ed Wood’s 1959 sci-fi/horror film Plan 9 from Outer Space on Friday, October 11 at 8 p.m. at the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie. The evening will also include a screening of the short film Dragzilla by New York City-based director Lola Rock ‘N’ Rolla, who will join a post-film panel discussion that includes Joe Netherworld of Weird Poughkeepsie. Netherworld has launched a fundraising campaign to erect a life-sized statue of Ed Wood, who was born and raised in Poughkeepsie and worked as an usher at the Bardavon in the late 1930s. Panelists will also include the statue’s sculptor, Patrick Pigott, along with Bailey Jay and Kevin Barry, who will discuss how Wood influenced their lives and careers. Ticketholders are invited to a prescreening meet-and-greet in the Bardavon lobby at 7:30 p.m. with Vampira (Bailey Jay), Tor (Kevin Barry) and Ghoul à Go Go, who will have signed items for sale, with proceeds going to the statue fund.

Plan 9 from Outer Space was written and directed by Ed Wood, and features Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Tor Johnson and Maila “Vampira” Nurmi. Bela Lugosi is also credited, although the silent footage of the actor had been shot by Wood for other, unfinished projects just before Lugosi’s death in 1956. The plot of the film concerns extraterrestrial beings who are seeking to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon that would destroy the universe. Come dressed in 1950s sci-fi-inspired costume and help create a memorable event, Ed Wood-style.

Tickets cost $10 general admission and are available at the Bardavon box office at 35 Market Street in Poughkeepsie, (845) 473-2072, or through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or at www.ticketmaster.com.
