Kite Festival at Brook Farm in New Paltz
You could continue with the kite theme next weekend if you wanted to. On Sunday, September 29 at 2 p.m., Brook Farm will host a Kite Festival. A kitemaking table will be available on-site, as well as an expert kite-flyer to offer tips and suggestions. The suggestion donation for admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
Kite-flying is followed by Redwing Blackbird Puppets’ Jack & the Beanstalk at 4 p.m. The puppet show promises to include an “intrepid youth, a wicked giant, magic beans and a chicken that lays golden eggs. There will be laughter, and at every possible opportunity – count on it – there will be a song!” The suggested donation for admission to the performance is $10 for adults, $3 for children.

Sacred Earth Festival at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls
Across the river it’s the second annual Sacred Earth Festival at Bowdoin Park on Sunday, September 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year’s theme is Celebrate Forests. Keep your eyes on the edge of the forest at Bowdoin, and you might spot some eagles on their nest. Admission is free, the public is welcome and the event highlights free face-painting for kids, storytelling, songs, healings, food and more.

Touch-a-Truck playground fundraiser at Kingston’s Forsyth Park
The Touch-a-Truck events are so popular lately, but one element that sets this event apart from the others is its great location, Forsyth Park – which means that you’re next to a playground and a Nature Center! Another bonus is that your admission fee of $5 per person or $20 per family eventually makes its way back to you in the form of a new, renovated playground space at Forsyth: This Touch-a-Truck is a fundraiser for the Junior League of Kingston to create the new Kingston Kinderland II. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is horn-free from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

Gem & Mineral Show relocates to Gold’s Gym in Poughkeepsie
The 44th annual Mid-Hudson Gem & Mineral Society gem and mineral show and sale take place this Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, September 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s gathering is held in a new location: Gold’s Gym Family Sports Complex, located at 258 Titusville Road in Poughkeepsie.
Kids receive six free rocks, and the website has an Earth Science scavenger hunt sheet to print and fill out for extra credit at school and a chance to win a student-only prize. Admission costs $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for students, and children age 12 and under with a paying adult get in free.

Rosendale celebrates Creek Week with Fishing Day
How about an opportunity for some free fishing with the family? On Sunday, September 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., head over to Rosendale Fishing Day at the Rondout Creek access at the end of Snyder Lane off Main Street (Route 213) in Rosendale. All equipment is provided, along with guides to offer tips and tricks to “catch the big one.” All ages, both kids and adults, are welcome to participate, and no fishing license is required.
