Schirmer thanks Conservatives
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the members of the Saugerties Conservative Party for their support at the party caucus on Aug. 28. I am honored to carry the party’s banner into the general election. I look forward to working closely with Conservative Party members as my campaign progresses over the next two months. When elected, I will work hard to encourage a shift to more conservative philosophies and ideals within our town government. I hope I can count on your continued support on Nov. 5.

In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to Mary Wawro and Fred Costello Sr. for their nominations at the Conservative Caucus. I appreciate your kind words and your faith and trust in me. Also, thank you to the Conservatives who attended the caucus and came out to show their support for me.

Mayone: professional & honest
My first Conservative caucus! I felt compelled to share my experience with you, my fellow taxpayers. First, why did I attend? A man I know and respect is running for our town highway superintendent position. I believe in Ray Mayone and know he will run our Highway Department in a professional and honest manner. He is a good man and his experience in construction will benefit the town. He had my vote at the caucus and he will have my vote in November!
Ray was nominated by the lovely Mary Warwo and seconded by Fred Costello Sr. Thank you both for standing tall and speaking words of truth. It was refreshing to sit and listen to honest facts about one of the highway candidates.
Our Highway Department needs to be run by someone who has integrity. Ray Mayone is the candidate we need and the one we should all vote for. He is the true candidate with sincerity. Times are tough and money is tight for everyone. Ray Mayone is the man who will look out for us, the taxpayers! Thank you.

Rave review for Highway Department
I am writing to comment on a favorable experience with the Highway Department. I contacted the Saugerties Highway Department in reference to recurring issues my road encounters after heavy rainfalls and snow plow removal. Highway Superintendent Doug Myer’s efforts were commendable. Mr. Myer personally took time to assess, recognize the problem and schedule necessary repairs. I also want to credit the Saugerties department maintenance crew for their outstanding service. I am impressed by their professionalism and efficiency. Mr. Myer demonstrates commitment. He can count on my vote for this election.

Walter has judicial and public service experience
Lanny Walter is my choice for town justice because he is not only an experienced trial attorney with judicial experience as an arbitrator for small-claims matters and a principal administrative law judge, but because of his tremendous service to the life of Saugerties.
Without Lanny’s untiring efforts as the co-founder and chairman of the Winston Farm Alliance, the entrance to Saugerties, the beautiful Winston Farm, would now be a mega-dump and the site of a garbage incinerator. Without his efforts as co-founder and chair of No Saugerties Casino, Saugerties might now be buried under a Mega-Indian Casino.
He has served on the Saugerties School Board, on the Advisory Board of the Boys and Girls Club, and on the Comprehensive Planning Committee. He has served as trustee of the Ulster County Board of Cooperative Educational Services (which most of us know as BOCES) and as a member of the Ulster County Ethics Committee. These are just some of the organizations to which he has given his time, energy and skill, every one of them to the benefit of this town.
Most recently, pro bono, he took on the case of 53 election poll inspectors who were denied their right to vote because of an error made by the Board of Elections in distributing ballots to them. He won. They won. And therefore all of us won.
I urge everyone to vote for Lanny Walter for town justice.

The crosswalk situation
After hearing Mayor Murphy and Alex Wade discuss the issue of the pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Partition and Main streets, Mayor Murphy made it clear at the last Village Board meeting that the mayor’s office and the Village Board have been trying to get a pedestrian crossing signal for over six years. At the previous Village Board meeting, Mr. Wade, who is employed by the village for special assignments, gave a succinct history of the crosswalk, and how the old crossing signal had been removed back in 1985, because traffic had been backing up all the way down Partition St. With the revitalization of the village shopping district in the last six years, Mayor Murphy and Mr. Wade have made numerous attempts in their communications with the State Department of Transportation, dot, to have a crosswalk signal reinstituted. In response to Mayor Murphy and Mr. Wade, the dot told them that it is not on their calendar to address this issue in the foreseeable future, because they are so swamped with other traffic and highway concerns statewide. After hearing this information, Saugerties Police Chief Sinagra told Mayor Murphy, Mr. Wade and the Village Board that he would personally contact the dot and explain to them the urgency of the issue, as several of his officers have witnessed several near accidents between pedestrians and automobiles. Chief Sinagra feels that he can influence the dot to make this intersection’s pedestrian crosswalk a top priority of their department in order to get this crosswalk signal installed.
As an aspiring public servant on the county-level, I realize the importance of working with the other town and village public servants like Mayor Murphy, the town supervisor and their associative boards. In addition, I have had numerous conversations with Police Chief Sinagra on several issues related to Saugerties, and one cannot help but notice his presence as our police chief, as he often walks the beat around the village by himself. In fact, I even had a discussion with Chief Sinagra at that very intersection where we did in fact discuss traffic flow issues at that very spot. Communication and direct interactions with the Town Board, Village Board and other public officials are very important to me as your public servant, and while I am serving Saugerties in the Ulster County Legislature, I will take this aspect of the job very seriously as Saugerties’ public servant!
