Lanny for Justice
I would like to use this forum to thank the Saugerties Democrats who supported me at the July 9 Democratic Party caucus. I appreciate the enthusiasm and encouragement from so many giving me the opportunity to run and hopefully become the Saugerties town justice.
For those Democrats who supported Dan Lamb, I ask you to please keep your minds open for the Nov. 5 election. Mr. Lamb is the Republican Party candidate and sought on July 9 to capture the Democratic Party nomination and avoid a challenge. He has the right to do this, but I do not think that having a free ride as an elected official rather than having to compete for the job serves any of us. With a challenger, the sitting judge is encouraged to consider how he might better serve the public and perhaps implement some of those changes. If he does not improve his performance, he risks his office. If he does improve his performance and the court’s operation, we all benefit, even if the challenger is unsuccessful.
I have been an attorney for over 40 years and have a vast amount of litigation and court room experience on all levels. I will bring to the Town Court my experience and insight which, in conjunction with Judge Claudia Andreassen, will enhance the quality of justice in our town. As it states on my T-shirts and will say on my lawn signs: “Lanny for Justice.” Thank you for your consideration.
Lanny E. Walter

Thank you Democrats
I want to convey my appreciation to all Saugerties Democrats who participated in our Democratic Party Caucus on July 9. I also want to thank all the volunteers who helped to welcome our guests while ensuring that our caucus ran smoothly.
The Saugerties Democratic Party has a big tent when it comes to selecting candidates for town offices. We select our candidates based on professional credentials, record of community service and their pledge to serve the public, and not political special interests. Our candidates will be reaching out to you to hear your ideas and concerns and to share their vision for the future of Saugerties. They will run positive campaigns but will not shy away from responding to the inevitable political falsehoods that may will come their way.
We hope that on Election Day, Nov. 5, you will elect Greg Helsmoortel for supervisor, Bruce Leighton and Marjorie Block for Town Board, Doug Myer for Superintendent of Highways, Lanny Walter for town justice as well as our cross-endorsed candidates Suzi Filak for receiver of taxes and Lisa Stanley for town clerk.

Chair, Saugerties Democratic Committee
Myer helps out shelter
I wish to publicly thank our Saugerties Highway Superintendent, Doug Myer, for his prompt response on Friday, July 1, to my call for his advice and assistance concerning an emergency situation at the Saugerties Transfer Station. We only have three small pieces of equipment to work with at the station. All are over 25 years old with high mileage. One of the pieces of our equipment, a small Caterpillar, broke down in the middle of a brush chipping operation. I needed help! Doug Myer responded immediately. He provided a more efficient piece of equipment so that the chipping operation could be completed and also sent one of his mechanics to inspect our machine to determine what was wrong and what it would take to repair it. Thank you, Mr. Myer, for being there when needed.

Saugerties
Thank you to Jamie Fine from the Boys & Girls Club
For seven years Jamie has tirelessly worked to create The Secret Gardens Tour in Saugerties and generously donated the proceeds from it to the Boys & Girls Club in Saugerties.
This year, as in years past, each and every garden selected for the tour was unique and special in its own way. Some gardens had such a wow factor there simply weren’t words to express such beauty. All the home owners were extremely gracious and friendly to the guests on the tour and the guests were all in awe of such incredible beauty at every garden. Jamie has created a truly magical experience. We know it is a labor of love for her and we love that she continues to find secret gardens that bring such joy to so many people.
The board and club members are extremely grateful to Jamie for her support and generosity over the years. Selecting the Boys & Girls Club as the recipient of the monies raised during The Secret Garden Tours has been, to say the least, an enormous gift. We are so thankful for her ongoing friendship to our club.
