Snapology offers Lego Camp scholarships
As I referenced earlier, many people who enjoy Minecraft also like building with Legos. Have you heard about our area’s newest Lego learning resource, Snapology? This summer, Snapology is offering five need-based scholarships to children who would like to attend one of its camps, but need help managing the cost. Snapology’s scholarship would reduce the cost of a five-day camp from $150 to just $50. This applies to all of its camps, including Lego® Robotics and Lego® Animation Studio.
Families interested in applying should e-mail midhudsonvalley@snapology.com or call (845) 255-1318 to request an application form. Space is limited, and people are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Recycled Style in Montgomery offers funky fashion for harried Moms
The first time I shopped at the vintage shop Recycled Style, I had simply planned to browse. I didn’t have anything specific that I was looking for, and I still insist that the new gorgeous dress that I took home that day found me, instead of the other way around.
I stopped in again last week, and this time, I had a mission to dress for: an evening poolside party with a black-and-white theme. I told owner Maria Beltrametti what I needed, and she went right to the racks and pulled four pieces. When I tried on Choice Number Two, a fabulous black-and-white short-sleeved shift, we agreed that this was It.
Being accessory-challenged, I casually asked her, “What would you wear with this?” Beltrametti disappeared and came right back with the most wonderful summer hat that I have ever seen, and I immediately bonded with my new chapeau. In fact, when she returned with a couple of funky necklaces and began to lift the hat off my head to put them on, I reflexively drew back, as if to guard the hat from ever leaving my sight!
I have a great time looking around when I’m in the shop, and store-dog Shadow is friendly and affectionate; but I was also on deadline to pick up my kids. Shopping at Recycled Style is like having a personal stylist who is committed to transforming me from “Whatever” to “Wow!” both under-budget and ahead of schedule. I can’t wait to go back!
Recycled Style is located at 109 Ward Street in Montgomery. For more information, call (845) 769-7000.
Children’s Fashion Show in New Paltz benefits AIDS research, Family
Speaking of vintage fashion, head over to the Water Street Market in downtown New Paltz this weekend for a special show and music, all to support amfAR: The Foundation for AIDS Research and Family of New Paltz. On Saturday, June 29, Pamela Sue Mann curates “Dream: Les Petits Revenants Children’s Fashion Show,” where the young models will “wear art with a history.” The fashion show begins at 4 p.m. and is followed by a live performance by the Sirens, an all-girl ukulele band.
The show is free and open to the public and intended for all ages. Baskets will be passed for donations to the featured charities, and vintage shoes will be available for purchase.
The Water Street Market is located at 10 Main Street in New Paltz. For more information or to volunteer to help with photography and video for the event, call (917) 743-4993.
Life, liberty & the pursuit of ice cream at Bevier House Museum in Marbletown
We live amidst countless historic sites here in the Hudson Valley, and since our area figured so prominently in the American Revolution, there are many celebrations taking place this week in honor of America’s independence. On Sunday, June 30, the Bevier House Museum in Stone Ridge hosts its annual Independence and Ice Cream Celebration. From 1 to 4 p.m., hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by ice cream sundaes. What a fun, delicious way to engage our families in our history! Admission is $5 per person.
The Bevier House Museum is that place that you’ve driven by and been meaning to check out for years, located at 2682 Route 209 in the Town of Marbletown. For more information, call (845) 338-5614 or e-mail uchsdirector@gmail.com.
I also recommend checking out the Ulster County Historical Society/Bevier House Museum page on Facebook. It posts great historic local photos and letters, which add some nice depth to my newsfeed: www.facebook.com/beviereducationprograms.
