This year’s school budget and trustee vote will be held Tuesday, May 21 from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the district’s four elementary schools. All registered Saugerties voters are eligible to vote.
On the ballot: a $55.9 million budget carrying a 1.9 percent tax increase and two candidates for three open seats on the nine-member board of trustees. Sitting president George Heidcamp and newcomer Angie Minew will appear on the ballot.
Four other candidates are asking supporters to write their names in: Robert Davies, an incumbent who’d planned on retiring before the dearth of candidates convinced him otherwise, and Vince McLaughlin, who declared his candidacy just last week, Florence Hyatt has served previously on the school board and is currently employed at the Kingston Hospital as a nursing director, and Mike MacIsaac, also a former board member; he’s an engineer at IBM.
Heidcamp, a retired police officer, has served on the board since 2007. He points to a record of balancing fiscal and educational concerns. He has a letter in this week’s paper.
Minew is the owner and proprietor of Speckled Frog Playcare in Barclay Heights. She is a parent of three students at Cahill Elementary and a member of the school’s PTA.
Davies joined the board in 2010.
