Animal Expo at SUNY-Ulster
Looking for more animals after the Minnewaska program? I have two words for you: Animal Expo. To SUNY-Ulster’s Veterinary Technology Club, Animal Expo means a reptile show, a petting zoo with horses, goats and potbellied pigs, face-painting, arts and crafts, door prizes, a silent auction, a bake sale and more. To me, Animal Expo means wholesome family fun for all ages, from the youngest set who might be content with just petting and feeding live animals to older youth exploring career paths in animal care to those of us who love a good bake sale.
Animal Expo takes place on Saturday, April 13 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Senate Gymnasium at SUNY-Ulster. The reptile show begins at 1 p.m. Admission costs $8 for adults, $4 for children aged 5 to 14 years and is free for children age 4 and under. Please note that personal pets are not allowed at the Animal Expo.

Family Fun Day at MAC Park in Kingston
Begin your Saturday, April 13 at Family Fun Day at MAC Park. Organized by Family Friendly Hudson Valley along with MAC Fit Kids, activities include bounce houses, games and demonstrations, crafts with FiberFlame, swag bags, local vendors, door prizes and more. Admission for all of this fun costs only $5 per family (which is good news during tax season), and you might even have enough left over to treat yourself to a caramel mocha from the drive-through up the road.

Bullying Prevention Bowl-a-Thon at HoeBowl in Kingston
Want more fun after Family Fun Day? How about some fun that helps to make a difference? Then head across the street to HoeBowl on the Hill for the Bullying Prevention Bowl-a-Thon! You and your crew can enjoy an afternoon of bowling and pizza while also supporting equality and safe schools, all while wearing those sweet shoes. The cost is $10 per person for two games of bowling, one slice of pizza and shoe rental, cash only.

Rosendale Theatre screens Ballet’s Greatest Hits
I took our budding ballerina to see First Position at the Rosendale Theatre last year, a documentary about competing in the renowned international Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP). We don’t have much experience with the dance world, but we were both moved by the young dancers’ grace, poise, elegance and strength, as well as their personal stories.
We would like to see more films like this, and now our wish has been granted! On Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m., the Rosendale Theatre shows Ballet’s Greatest Hits, a film by YAGP: “a filmed gala evening showcasing six of the most beloved classical ballets: Don Quixote, Flames of Paris, Giselle, La Bayadere, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.”
How did this film come about? “By distributing this film, YAGP will further its mission to educate the next generation of dancers because thousands of artists will have unprecedented access to current interpretations of ballet classics…. This would allow people who do not normally have access to dance artistry to experience firsthand the beauty and excitement of classical ballet.”
