There aren’t too many female singers out there who fall into the bass/baritone category. Maybe that’s part of the reason why the up-and-coming R & B phenomenon Alexis P. Suter can belt out blues and soul numbers with such persuasive grit and power. A perennial favorite at Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles, Suter was nominated for a 2012 Blues Music Award in the Soul/Blues Female Artist category. She’ll be returning to our neck of the woods on Saturday, December 1 to perform at the Bearsville Theater.
This is the second year in a row that Suter and her Band, along special guests the Lindsey Webster Band, will put on a Holiday Concert at the Bearsville to benefit Family of Woodstock’s refuge for battering victims, the Washbourne House Domestic Violence Shelter. Besides a rousing evening of music, the event will include a grand raffle of gift certificates and items donated by local businesses.
Attendees are also invited to consider bringing along an item (new only, please) to donate to residents of the Shelter as a holiday gift. Appropriate and needed items include toys for boys and girls from infancy to age 12, or gifts for women including scarves, wallets, costume jewelry, body lotion or other small self-indulgences.
Miss G, a/k/a Abbe Wooden Kazoo, a/k/a the Kazoo Lady of Woodstock, will serve as emcee for the benefit concert. The doors will open at 8 p.m. and the music will commence at 9. Tickets cost $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the show. To order, call (845) 679-4406 or visit www.bearsvilletheater.com.
