Young talent showcases at Ritz and Towne Crier
Not one, but two talent-based opportunities for our youth right here in the Hudson Valley. Here’s our chance to sit in the audience with our families and be inspired!
The Ritz Theater in Newburgh presents the fourth year of RitzKidz “Newburgh’s Got Talent!” talent show on Sunday, November 18th at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and are available through talent show participants or through the box office at 3:00 p.m. on the day of the show. The Ritz Theater is located at 107 Broadway in Newburgh. For more information call (845) 784-1199 or visit www.ritztheaternewburgh.org.
Have you heard that the Towne Crier in Pawling is moving? Here’s a wonderful incentive to stop in if you haven’t been there in a while. The second annual Hudson Valley Young Artist Talent Search is on with a series of performances on Sundays at 1 p.m. on November 18, November 25, and December 2, with a finale and award ceremony on Sunday, December 16 at 1 p.m. “It’s been a real joy to host an event for the young artist who spends so much time going to music lessons and practicing but has limited opportunities to perform on a real stage,” says Suanne Elisabeth of Gutsy Woman Productions and producer of the talent search. Tickets for each of the talent search events are $15 for adults, $8 for students and seniors. The Towne Crier is located at 130 Route 22 in Pawling. For reservations or more information, call (607) 229-6087 or visit www.TowneCrier.com. To learn more about the competition, visit www.triplethreattalentsearch.com.
Helping Ana Dooley
Three of my favorite bands, in one concert, to support a local girl’s journey towards wellness from cancer, I can’t wait! On Sunday, November 18th, come on out to High Meadow School for an evening of great music and fun with the bands The Trapps, The Felice Brothers, and Dog on Fleas, and emcee Rick from the WKZE morning show, to benefit Ana Dooley who is fighting liver cancer. There will also be raffles, door prizes, t-shirts, and a bake sale. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the show starts at 5 p.m. Regular tickets are $20, VIP tickets are $45. Tickets can be purchased online at https://healingana.brownpapertickets.com. High Meadow School is located at 3643 Main Street in Stone Ridge. New Paltz Turkey Trot
Over the years, I have been a volunteer for the 9th Annual Family of New Paltz Turkey Trot, walked the 5K route, and I have run it. I highly recommend involvement in the Turkey Trot at any level. This event takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22nd. I find it’s a great way to start an otherwise pretty sedentary day full of eating, and some of the costumes and hats people wear make it even more delightful. I also love that the proceeds from this Fun Run benefit Family of New Paltz, a crisis intervention center that serves our community with a food pantry, a 24 hour hotline, support groups, and a shelter. The festivities begin with a free Mashed Potato Kids half mile fun run at 8:45 a.m. for children 10 years and under, and all finishers will receive a prize. Remember to get your kids there early to join in on some pre-run stretching with a special turkey! Then the regular Turkey Trot begins at 9:30 a.m. All of the activities take place at or near Water Street Market in New Paltz, off of Main Street, including a performance by the children’s music band, Fuzzy Lollipop. Registration fees before Thanksgiving are $10 for youth 18 and under and seniors 65 and over; and $20 for adults ages 19 to 64 years. I recommend pre-registering to avoid the lines on the day of the event and to keep the cheaper registration rate: prices go up $5 on the day of the event.
