The 14th annual New Paltz Climbing Film Festival returns to New Paltz on Saturday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m., at the Lecture Center at SUNY New Paltz with groundbreaking new climbing films by the top producers in the industry. A video clip of the films can be seen at https://www.reelrocktour.com. In addition to the films, Mohonk Preserve’s 14th annual Tom Scheuer Award for Land Stewardship will be presented, and the Gunks Grunt Pull-up contest will be held to test the mettle of attendees.

Other events throughout the weekend include a climber’s reception and slide show at the Mohonk Preserve Visitor Center on Friday, Oct. 5. The Preserve will host a reception at 7 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by a presentation entitled “Eiger Dreaming.” The slideshow will be presented by Jason Beaupre and Frank Tkac on their two very different summits of the Eiger in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland.

On Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8 a.m., a rock shoe demo will be held at Rock and Snow in New Paltz. A series of free climbing clinics will also be conducted at Rock and Snow by local guide services. To sign up for a clinic, call 255-1311. On Sunday, Oct. 7, Rock and Snow will again hold safe climbing clinics, followed by a swap meet from 7 to 9 p.m.
