The New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce, along with its president Michael Smith and Arthur Hash of the SUNY New Paltz Fine Arts Department Metals Program, has announced the release of the Village of New Paltz 125th Anniversary/New Paltz Fire Department 150th Anniversary Commemorative Coin, the first of its kind. The coin is composed of white brass, cast by Taba Casting of New York City, contracted through SUNY New Paltz. Hash and Smith collaborated on the concept, design and rendering of the coin, which features a stylized historical scene of Huguenot street complete with a view of the Shawangunk Ridge on one side; and, on the reverse side, a fire truck commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the New Paltz Fire Department.
The production and rendering of this original design, along with high-level polishing and antique finishing of the coin, required many hours and a very skilled team, led by Hash. The result of this donated effort is a memorable collector’s piece honoring the spirit of this milestone event. The coin is a limited edition.
The coin is available for purchase through the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce, the project’s major sponsor. Coins are $10 each. For more information, call the Chamber at 255-0243 or e-mail info@newpaltzchamber.org.
