The bottom line makes strange bedfellows, and the pairing of Joe Cocker and Huey Lewis and the News is hardly the strangest that you’ll find. Still, a singer known for his larynx-ravaging abandon and his famously palsied stage manner is a stark contrast with the ever-coiffed and composed golfer Lewis: one of the more era-defined, if not era-defining, figures of the slick ‘80s. The two icons team up for a night of hits on Sunday, August 5 at Bethel Woods, where Cocker’s historic performance went down almost exactly 42 years before.
While Cocker is called the headliner and enjoys a 16-point-to-12-point print-size advantage in the press release, Lewis is several times billed as “co-headliner.” One can almost hear the conference call compromises and ego defense that must have gone into that confusing hierarchy. But each in his manner, you can be sure that these cats will deliver the goods.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $26.50 for Lawn seating to $127. For a limited time only, a Lawn Four-Pack is available for $80. Fans can purchase tickets at https://bethelwoodscenter.org, TicketMaster, the box office or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
