Cops have arrested a city teen who they say opened fire with an airgun on three school buses and a city-owned backhoe.

According to police, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18 in the area of Clinton and Greenkill avenues. Police say a BB or pellet gun smashed windows on two school buses from the First Student bus company. Another bus, from Arthur Mulligan Bus Co., was struck with a projectile but did not sustain window damage. All three buses had students aboard when they were attacked. No one was injured in the shooting and students were safely transferred to new buses to be transported home. Another BB cracked a window on a backhoe belonging to Kingston’s Department of Public Works in the same area.

On Wednesday, April 26, following an investigation by KPD detectives, police arrested Angel Pacheco, 17, of33 Cedar St. for the pellet gun attacks. Pacheco was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. KPD Lt. Patrick Scanlon said that the criminal mischief charge could be upgraded to a felony pending a cost estimate on the damage caused to the busses and backhoe. Pacheco was arraigned in Kingston City Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail on $1,000 bail.
