Three alleged bank robbers are in custody following the robbery of the Sawyer Savings Bank in Saugerties Tuesday.
Arrested and charged with the bank robbery were John B. Streb Jr., 27, of Rochester, N.Y.; Ryan W. Novick, 31, of Rochester, N.Y. and Amamda K. Muhs, 29, of Albany, N.Y. The three suspects are charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony that can carry a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
According to the police report, one of the three suspects entered the bank, located at 87 Market Street in the village, shortly after 1 p.m. and demanded money. The trio then made off with cash, said Deputy Police Chief Joseph Sinagra. The amount is not being disclosed as the case is still under investigation.
One of the suspects was found locked in a parked car at the Hot Shoppe at the Ulster rest stop on the New York State Thruway near Ruby, Sinagra said. Police had to break a window to get the suspect out of the car, he added, but declined to identify which suspect.
All three suspects were in custody within two hours following the robbery.
Officers from the Town of Ulster Police, the New York State Police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department and the Ulster County District Attorney’s office all assisted.
