On Saturday, Jan. 28 from noon to 3 p.m, Water Street Market will host its fourth annual local ingredient chili challenge. Organizers will be accepting up to 25 participants. There is no cost to enter, but you will need to donate a minimum of three gallons of your best chili and be there to serve it. The chili must contain at least five local ingredients (such as tomatoes, peppers, honey, beer, turkey, beef, etc.). Keep in mind that the more local ingredients you have, the more weight it carries with the judges.

The chili will be judged for first and second place under these categories: best overall, best vegetarian, best professional (restaurant or professional chef), people’s choice and most original.

Water Street Market will provide the two-ounce portion cups and spoons. All proceeds from this event will go to the St. Joseph’s non-denominational food pantry, which is in dire need of supplies to feed hundreds of local families. This event typically raises at least $1,000 for them.

The Cheese Plate is offering 25% off on a cheese purchase if it is included in your chili recipe. You’ll need to mention that it’s for the chili challenge.

The Gilded Otter is offering 15% off any of their beer purchased for your chili recipe and In Good Taste is also offering 15% off any local spirits purchased there for your recipes.

Please contact Theresa Fall at terryfall@gmail.com if you would like to enter, or for more information, visit waterstreetmarket.com.
