This Sunday, January 15, local fans of topnotch classical music performed in intimate settings are in for a treat. Pascal Rogé, one of the stars of piano-playing in the French style, will be returning to the Trail Mix Chamber Concerts series for the fourth time since 2007 with his wife Ami Rogé, née Hakuno. They will be performing both solo and duo piano in a program titled “Two Hearts, Four Hands.”
Besides having taken the stage at practically every prestigious concert venue and classical music festival on four continents over his 40-year career, Pascal Rogé is particularly noted for his five-volume set of recordings of all the piano works of Debussy, which was listed by one prominent British cultural pundit, Norman Lebrecht, as among the 100 best classical recordings ever made. The offerings at Sunday’s Trail Mix recital at the Olive Free Library will include five Debussy works: Suite Bergamasque, Deux Arabesques, L’ile Joyeuse, Petite Suite and the beloved La Mer. Poulenc’s lighthearted L’Histoire de Babar le Petit Éléphant will round out the program.
The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Olive Free Library, located at 4033 Route 28A in West Shokan: an ideal chamber music space that the Trail Mix folks like to brag puts the audience within “whisper distance” of the performers. Tickets go for $20 general admission, $5 for students; a book of eight tickets good for any regular Trail Mix Concert costs $120.
