The 30th annual Woodstock Holiday Open House takes place this Friday, December 2 from 5 to 9 p.m., when storefronts will be decorated, creating an atmosphere that only Woodstock can offer: glitter and entertainment, crisp air and twinkling lights and thousands of folks on the streets and in the shops enjoying a very special evening.

The Kingston Catholic School Choir will set the tone by caroling all around town from 5 to 7 p.m., while carolers from Woodstock Day School with hold forth at Bradley Meadows from 5 to 8 p.m., next to a bonfire. Hot cider and s’mores will also be available there to fuel the body. At Mirabai Bookstore, a Celtic harp concert will be presented by Meryn, and the Woodstock Music Shop will host Raphael Garritano and Guest. The Cupcakes Acoustic Trio will entertain at the Woodstock Artists’ Association and Museum (WAAM), and the jazz duo Fish Castle will perform at the Woodstock Historical Society. Songsters Whitman and Pantell will delight visitors at Bearsville Graphic Studio Gallery when they do selections from their CD Chicken Fat Pudding, and at the Woodstock Playhouse A Christmas Carol will be staged at 7:30 p.m.

As book-signings take place at Jean Turmo’s and the Golden Notebook, kids can participate in creating a mini-collage on canvas at WAAM. At Galerie BMG, the opening of a group artists’ show will feature examples of Woodstock’s finest arts, and a weaving demonstration will be held at Loominus.

This First Friday kickoff to a season of fun shopping for gifts and treasures includes holiday discounts and giveaways, and lots of raffles happening at various stores, take a look at the great stuff mentioned here: a $25 Gift Certificate at Bearsville Graphic Studio Gallery; a pair of Ugg boots with purchase at Pegasus Footwear; a drawing to win a fabulous Radio Flyer All-Terrain Wagon and a Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder at H.
