If you’re in town this Thursday and Friday and notice that all your favorite New Paltz shops are covering their windows with paper, do not worry that yet another downturn in the economy is forcing them to close. Village business-owners are inside, busily decorating their storefronts for the holiday festivities to come. And on Friday, November 18 from 5 to 8 p.m., the great unveiling will occur as the paper comes down and the shopping begins. Shoppers are encouraged to meet at 2 Church Street at 6 p.m. for the Snowflake-Lighting ceremony, and then stroll around the village to see windows unwrapped in all their holiday glory.
Businesses downtown, including Huguenot Street, will be open late throughout the weekend to give shoppers a leisurely opportunity to enjoy browsing and finding just the right gifts for friends and family. Hot cocoa stations will be available throughout the village, and most stores will be offering special events, prizes for kids and extra giveaways.
Participating businesses will be offering a 20 percent discount coupon for purchasing all weekend long. Look for signs in the store windows. Vote for your favorite holiday window decoration.
