Kris Kristofferson’s career is so storied that it’s almost impossible to think of a time when he wasn’t making a splash as a musician, songwriter and actor. Whether you’re a fan of his work alongside Barbara Streisand in A Star is Born or in the Highwaymen alongside Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, chances are that you began plotting your drive to the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie immediately after hearing that Kristofferson would be performing there on Friday, November 4.
Billed as “The Bardavon Presents an Evening with Kris Kristofferson,” it seems likely the evening will mix stories and song that cover much of the career of a legend who first broke through the door of the music business by cleaning it as a janitor for Columbia Records. Though a pre-show peek at Kristofferson’s setlist wasn’t possible, one gets the sense that a certain liberating air will flow through the selection at the intimate show. “If you took the freedom out of the songs, you’d have very few Kristofferson songs,” said the singer.
Kristofferson’s biggest hits include “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” “For the Good Times” and “Me and Bobby McGee,” which scored hits for Janis Joplin, Roger Miller and Kristofferson himself.
Tickets for Kris Kristofferson at the Bardavon go for $70 for Gold Circle, $55 for general admission and $50 for Bardavon members.
