Thanks for voting

I would like to thank those that voted for the 2011 Saugerties Public Library budget. Your support is greatly appreciated! The trustees, the director Sukrit Goswami, the staff and I will do our best to get the most value from the money raised in taxes. I would also like to thank Janet Carter who served ten years on the board. She worked on long range planning and followed up by serving on the building committee. I considered Janet the conscience of the board and we will miss her. The large turnout and the eight candidates is an indication of the increased interest in the library. Congratulations to incumbent Steve Crohn on winning a new two year term and newcomers Bernie Carroll on winning a five year term and Rebecca Mignano-Campbell on winning a four year term. Thank you also for electing me to another 5 year term. The current board, the director and I look forward to working with Bernie and Rebecca and welcome them to the SPL board.

Ted Conathan

Saugerties Public Library Board President

Write-in Helsmoortel

Your right to choose your candidate for town supervisor has been revoked by the county Independence party chair, Len Bernardo. Gregory Helsmoortel has done a very good job running our town for the past 12 years, and he is again up for re-election. Greg was denied the opportunity to appear on the ballot by the county Independence Party members, and instead was intentionally left off the ballot by a closed door process in which the county party chair, Len Bernardo, put up the candidate he himself wanted.

Len is not a resident of Saugerties he has no right to deny supervisor Helsmoortel’s name from appearing on the primary ballot.

Greg successfully fought and received the right to primary, however, Len Bernardo still refused to allow Greg Helsmoortel’s name to appear on the ballot.

I encourage all independence party members in Saugerties to exercise their right to vote, to primary, and choose who will represent you on the ballot in November! On September 13th, from noon to 9 p.m., your polls will be open to vote. You have to write in “Gregory Helsmoortel” under the supervisor line for Greg to even appear on the ballot in November for the Independence Party in Saugerties.

I also encourage you to vote for Leeanne Thornton, Fred Costello Jr., and Darren Chlud.

Please stand up and make our voices heard and if you like what Greg has done for this town, help return him to office! Thank you.

Paul Rinaldi
