The Ulster County office of emergency management has issued a warning of severe heat over the next few days.
“The heat index toward the end of the week is forecast to reach the 105 to 108 degree range,” county emergency management director Arthur R. Snyder warned police and government personnel.
Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel said the town would open the senior citizens’ center for emergency cooling if the temperatures reach the expected levels. The heat has caused such a demand in air conditioner repairs, that the Phoenix HVAC company has moved it’s operations here, temporarily, to help with the demand.
The Weather Channel predicts temperatures reaching 99 degrees Thursday, 98 degrees Friday and 96 degrees Saturday, with a relative cooling to 85 on Sunday. The forecast includes isolated thunderstorms on Friday and Sunday
