Following the narrow 1380 to 1322 rejection of the $53.3-million school budget Tuesday, June 21, the Board of Education voted 6-2 to adopt a budget that cuts $1 from it. Since last Tuesday was the second rejection this year, and the budget was already at state-mandated austerity level, the board had to cut at least $1 before adopting a budget. Some voters expected deeper cuts to result from the vote, but School Board trustees expressed the desire to avoid last year’s painful program cuts.
