If you’re boating on the Esopus Creek in Saugerties on Saturday, June 4, don’t be surprised if you hear music and singing coming from Esopus Bend Nature Preserve. From the site of the North Bridge and Docking Area, Saugerties High School Students will be serenading boaters taking the Decks and Docks Tour. The students’ enthusiasm about this opportunity to create a woodland production of song with non-acoustical instrumentation has led to a diverse program, including a men’s choral group.
This musical program was envisioned and organized by Samantha Peterson, a S.H.S. and Esopus Creek Conservancy volunteer. Undaunted by the fact that this performance takes place the day-after their Senior Prom, Samantha and this unstoppable community-minded student group will be there for your listening pleasure.
Logan Calahan and Kinsey Irvin, two talented Saugerties High photographers, will be documenting the event with their cameras.
If you have not yet purchased you tickets for the Decks and Docks Tour you may do so on line at esopuscreekconservancy.org. This is a Tour by kayak, canoe, row-boat, bike or automobile. Advanced tickets are $20 for individuals and $50 for a family. On Saturday, June 4, the day of the event, tickets are $30 for individuals and $65 for families. The rain-date is Sunday June 5. This is the annual fundraiser for Esopus Creek Conservancy, a non-profit organization that owns and manages Esopus Bend Nature Preserve, and is currently partnering with Scenic Hudson and the Dominican Sisters of Sparkhill to open a new Preserve on the Hudson River, Falling Waters, on July 25.
