Vladimir Bachinsky

Vladimir was born in January 26th, 1936, outside of Kiev in the city of Zhytomyr, Ukraine.

Escaping the invasion of Russia during WWII, he immigrated with his family to NYC as a young teenager. From a young age Vladimir showed talent as an artist and performer.

Vladimir became a brilliant master artist. He graduated from Pratt Institute and studied at Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, Italy. In his twenties, Vladimir also spent many years directing and producing Ukrainian films in Canada.

Vladimir was an accomplished iconographer, completing entire churches in the US, Canada and Europe. He was a lifelong surrealist painter, art restorer and resident of the Hudson Valley. Vladimir taught painting at the Woodstock School of Art for many years and resided outside of Woodstock NY for over forty years. He loved the ballet and performed the role of Drosselmeyer in Catskill Ballet Company’s Nutcracker for 30 years, also performing in their productions of Firebird and Peter & the Wolf. Many of those years he performed with his daughter Nina.

He was a dedicated and loving family man, survived by his wife, Ukrainian artist, Olenka Bachinsky, his 2 daughters Maya Bachinsky and Nina Bachinsky-Gimmel and his grandson, Kian Bachinsky.

Vladimir’s nature was consummately positive and kind. He had a sparkle in his eye, always enjoying meeting new people and socializing. He found joy everywhere and enjoyed life fully. His physical presence will be dearly missed. He died peacefully at home near Woodstock, on Thursday morning, October 27th after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
