Peter D. Ford, formerly of New Paltz and Woodstock, died of multiple myeloma on September 26 in St. Albans, Vermont.
Peter is fondly remembered for his passion, commitment, intelligence, and good heart. He was a key member of the grassroots movement that defended Minnewaska from the Marriot Corporation. Minnewaska’s present day status as a state park for public enjoyment and ecological preservation owes much to the dedication of Peter Ford. He similarly devoted his energy and strategic skills to New Paltz-based AFFIRM, the Association for Intelligent Rural Management.
Peter last returned to New Paltz in 2017 as a member of a panel to discuss the environmental issues in Carleton Mabee’s book Saving the Shawangunks at the Elting Memorial Library. Peter leaves behind Jim Peters, his life-partner of 31 years. Donations in his name can be sent to Martha’s Community Kitchen, 139 Lake St., St, Albans City, VT. 05478.
