Nancy Jean Stanich of Poughkeepsie, NY died on January 19, 2022. She was 82 years old.
Nancy was born July 26, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA to Mile and Semica Scgan Stanich. She was a graduate of Parsons College and Ohio State University. Nancy was an assistant professor of Physical Education at SUNY New Paltz. She coached the SUNY women’s tennis team and also was a judge for gymnastics competitions in the US and Europe.
In the 1970’s Nancy began a career in art with a focus first on photog- raphy and then in serigraph taken from her photographic work. She spent summers at Monhegan Island, Maine, creating and selling her art. Nancy was a member of the National Association of Women Art- ists, Boothbay Region Art Foundation, New Paltz Artist’s Association, Woodstock Artist’s Association, Ulster County Council for the Arts, and the Women’s Studio Workshop. She attended the Reformed Church of New Paltz. Nancy was preceded in death by her partner Dorrit Berg.
She is survived by many friends who enjoyed her friendship over the years. A memorial service will be held later this spring.
