Michael Martin Winfield, aged 72, of Clintondale, NY, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital from complications of kidney failure. He was born August 3rd, 1946 in Queens, New York, the son of Marion (Sandburg) Winfield and the late Fred Winfield. He married Ann Donnelly on December 2nd in New Paltz New York.
Michael came to the Hudson Valley in 1964 where he attended New Paltz State University until 1967. In 1968, he traveled to Europe, where he met his wife in Spain. After spending a number of years in San Francisco, where he worked as a cab driver, owned race horses, and enjoyed discovering out-of-the-way places to find delicious food, Michael returned to the Hudson Valley to settle down in Clintondale. He worked in the Security Department at Marist College for a number of years. In 2009, Michael took early retirement and moved to Southeast Asia where he settled in Pattaya, Thailand, returning to Clintondale for the summer months. Michael was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with friends both in New Paltz and on the championship golf courses around Pattaya. He also enjoyed going to the race track, playing pinochle, and listening to music.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Fred, and his brother, Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann, and his mother, Marion.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Copeland Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY where family and friends may visit on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. At 3:30 pm there will be a celebration of Michael’s life during which friends and family may share memories. A Reception will follow at a time and place to be announced.
