Marguerite “Dee” Saccoman

Marguerite “Dee” Saccoman, 95, a lifelong resident of Kingston, died Monday, July 5, 2021 at her home.

Born in East Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Flavio & Josephine Orico Castiglione.

Marguerite grew up on “the farm” in a very close-knit family with many brothers and sisters. She enjoyed the outdoors, riding horses & playing sports. Dee learned her culinary skills at an early age from her mother, who in addition to having a large family also ran a boarding house. She continued to perfect these skills throughout her life.

The youngest of the daughters, her father nicknamed her “Dolly” because she was so sweet. As she grew up, she shortened that to “Dee” which is the name most know her by today.

A graduate of Kingston High School, she also attended Arlington High School. Afterwards she graduated from New Paltz Teachers’ College, with a Masters Degree in Education.

Although she knew Joe in high school, it wasn’t until a few years later that they got together at St. Liberato’s Bazaar in East Kingston. It was a love that was meant to be and in 1950 they were married at St. Coleman’s church in East Kingston.

For several years, Marguerite taught at Emma Wygant elementary school in East Kingston. There wasn’t a formal art class, but she always found ways to share her artistic creativity with her students. Although she loved teaching, once she became a mother, she chose to devote full time to her family.

She was always involved in her children’s education, the PTA and making sure they were well rounded with piano, dance lessons and so much more. Dee was best known for her cooking, baking and entertaining, especially for the holidays.

Together with her husband Joe, they enjoyed many activities over the years with close friends including tennis, skiing, bridge club, dance group and traveling. But one of her greatest joys was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her faith in God and family followed her throughout her life. She was loved and will be missed by all.

Dee is survived by her husband of 70 years, Joseph D. Saccoman of Kingston, three daughters, Linda Saccoman and her life partner, Victor Romeo of Kingston, Donna Brosofske and her husband George of New Fairfield, CT and Toni McCullom and her husband, Ben of Chestnut Ridge, NY, a brother, Salvatore Castiglione of Ulster Landing, a sister in law, Rose Marie Hansen of Kingston, two grandchildren, Lea Demonia and Michael Brosofske, four great grandchildren, Jada, Anthony, Dakiem and Demetrius. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Dee was predeceased by many siblings.

Dee will be reposing at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4-7 PM. The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph’s Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
