John G. Vett III, 83, died in his sleep at home in the early hours of October 24th, 2019. A gathering to celebrate his life will be announced.
He was born in Peekskill, NY on July 28th, 1936 to John G. Vett, Jr. and Mary Martin Vett. His father was the Dean of Admissions at SUNY New Paltz and afterwards was the Mayor of New Paltz. Mary was a stay-at-home mother.
John was a United States Navy veteran, serving two terms. He was also a professional musician, working in show bands throughout the Catskill resorts for 46 years. John enjoyed travel, having visited Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, and Europe. He was an avid reader, a die- hard vegetarian, and a New York sports fan who loved the Giants and the Yankees.
John loved being a father and grandfather, supporting his sons at every game they played throughout their high school careers.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Aletta Vett, his children, John Vett IV and Ilya Vett, his daughters-in-law, Marguery Cina Vett and Desiree Giunta Vett, and his four grandchildren, John “Jack” Vett V, Tucker Vett, Freya Vett, and Sabina Vett.
Donations can be made in his name to two charities that John supported: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
