Florence R. Santiago, 98, of Gardiner, NY, died Monday, November 5, 2018, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Born in New York City on August 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Roy C. and Anna Mary Coleman Jungkurth. She married Jesus Santiago on November 24, 1938. In 1953, Flo and Joe moved to the home they built themselves in Gardiner, NY. Her husband predeceased her on July 4, 2008, after nearly 70 years of marriage.
Flo was warm and open-hearted, and her ready smile drew people to her. Although quiet, she made friends easily and maintained those friendships for life. An animal lover, she also loved to read mysteries, garden, and cook. Always knitting, crocheting, sewing, or doing needlepoint, her talent was remarkable, and everyone benefitted from her generous spirit.
Flo is survived by her son, Jesus M. Santiago and his wife, Barbara, of New Paltz; her daughter, Ann Marie Santiago and her wife, Jill Weintraub, of Poughkeepsie; a granddaughter, Theresa M. Santiago Dombroski and her husband, Robert L. Dombroski, Jr., of New Jersey; a grandson, John M. Santiago and his fiancé, Carol Piperato, of Highland; a great-grandson, Jeffrey M. Santiago and his daughter, Victoria K. Santiago, of New Jersey. She is also survived by four nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters, a niece and a nephew.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018, from 1 – 4 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY, followed by funeral services at 4 pm at the funeral home.
