Evelyn A. Harrison, 102, of Lamb Ave., Saugerties died Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Kingston Hospital. Born January 7, 1916 in Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie Chapman.
An area resident since the 1970’s, she formerly resided in the Bronx and was employed as a supervisor in the garment district of Manhattan for Bill Blass. Predeceased by her husband, Louis, survivors include a Daughter, Lurline V. Chambers of Rochester, 3 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Harrison traveled the world and was actively involved in her church, Trinity Episcopal Church of Saugerties for more than 40 years, where she was affectionately nicknamed “The General”. She was also involved in many community groups, including the Women’s Club of Saugerties, the Saugerties Council of Churches, and volunteered at the Saugerties Food Pantry and The Well Thrift Shop.
Friends will be received Monday, November 19th, 7:00 -9:00pm at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., 45 John St., Saugerties. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 20th at 11am at Trinity Episcopal Church, Saugerties. Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery.
