Dorothy Carlson died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Highwoods in Saugerties NY. She was 90 years old.
Born September 16, 1927 in Centerville, NY she was the daughter of George & Myrtle (Van Vlierden) Van Bramer. On January 25, 1947 she married Theodore H. Carlson, Jr. who pre-deceased her on May 20, 2010.
Dorothy was a graduate of the Saugerties High School Class of 1945. She worked for the Ulster County Dept. of Social Service accounting department. She left her employment in 1958 to become a homemaker and raise her family. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Highwoods Reformed Church.
She was a breeder of champion cocker spaniels and beagles. She was a member of the Ulster Dog Training Club. She served on the board of directors and was a past president of the Ulster County SPCA. She was a founding member of S.N.A.P. (Spay or Neuter a Pet). Dorothy was a strong advocate for the welfare of animals.
She was an officer and member of the Saugerties Snow Drifters Snowmobile Club which in later years evolved to include camping. Dorothy and her husband loved to spend summers camping at Beaver Spring Campground in Davenport, NY.
Survivors include her two daughters, Georgette Cutler & her husband Donald of Highwoods and Elsa Carlson of Amsterdam, NY; a son, Erik Carlson of Highwoods; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 pm Saturday February 24, 2018 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY. Rev. Robert VanderLaan, Pastor of Plattekill Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will take place in the Spring in Mt. Marion Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
