Doris Dittman Bartow aged 93, passed away on June 19, 2020 after a long period of declining health in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
She was born in Yonkers, NY on January 9, 1927 to Willis and Marion Dittman. She was a graduate of Walden High School (NY) and Cornell University. She met her future husband, Douglass Bartow, at Cornell and they were married on June 29, 1948.
Doris and Doug raised their five children in New Paltz, NY.
Doris was an active member of the Reformed Church, the League of Women’s Voters, and served as judge at the 4-H Fairs using her background as a Home Economics Teacher. She supported her children in their various sports, Scouts and church activities as well as their friends. She enjoyed many lifelong friendships in New Paltz.
Doris spent the early years of their marriage raising their children and later worked at her ideal job, the Elting Memorial Library. Doris was an avid reader and crossword puzzler.
She is survived by sons Bruce Bartow of Dillon, CO, Paul Bartow (Ginny) of Syracuse, NY, and Malcolm Bartow of Ashville, NC and daughters Lina Bartow (Gonzalo DelaCadena) of Haverhill, MA and Laura LaFontaine (Bill) of Carmel, NY, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Doug and her three siblings.
Contributions in her name may be made to a local library or organization that serves the elderly.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
