Denise Marie Heude, 76, of New Paltz, New York passed on Monday, October 26, 2020 at her home, surrounded by family.
Born September 18, 1944 in Villamee, France she was the daughter of the late Victor and Victorine (Cotard) Heude.
Denise attained her Master’s Degree in French and another Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration from SUNY New Paltz. She was employed by the New Paltz School District teaching French for 33 years before her retirement in 2000. She was an active member of the New Paltz United Teacher’s Union.
She loved to travel and returned to France many times to visit family and friends. She relished all aspects of French culture. Denise organized and chaperoned numerous student trips to France as well. She traveled to many destinations including Peru, Scotland, England, Greece, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. She also wintered in the Florida Keys for many years. She loved to paint in watercolors, garden and cook. Denise enjoyed hosting gatherings in her beloved home for her many friends and family members.
Survivors include her niece, Noelle Brand and her husband, Chris of Marlboro, NY; her nephew, Charlie Atkins and his wife, Jennifer of New Paltz, NY; her great niece, Madeleine Brand of Marlboro, NY; her great nephews, Holden Atkins and Duncan Atkins of New Paltz; and many close friends and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marie Atkins. Denise was also predeceased by her partner of forty years, Roger Knapp.
A celebration of Denise’s life will be held at a future date.
