Anthony J. Moriello, age 81 of New Paltz NY, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Monday, February 26, 2018. Born on November 27, 1936, in Newburgh, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Bettina Ponessa Moriello. He married Sheila Costa on June 11, 1960, at St. Mary’s Church, Newburgh, NY.
Anthony was the Town of New Paltz Supervisor from 1967-1972 and the past chairman of the Town Planning Board. He sat on the board of many civic and not-for-profit organizations including Scenic Hudson Board of Directors, Farm Bureau, Paltz Club, Lions Club, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County and Hudson Valley Patterns for Progress. He served as Assistant to the Commissioner of Agriculture for NYS from 1972-1975.
Tony was an exceptional athlete. He played six-man football and basketball for New Paltz High School, where he also held the 100- yard dash record until after his children graduated from the same school. Tony was a Professional Ski Instructor of America Certified Ski Instructor and taught skiing at High Mount Ski Center for 35 years.
He retired as President of Moriello Brothers, New Paltz, NY. Surviving are his wife, Sheila Moriello of New Paltz, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jean Moriello of New Paltz, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Berger of New Paltz, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Gabriele Moriello of Nassau, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Joe Fulginiti of Valley Glen, CA; granddaughters, Meagan Bianco and her husband, Peter, of Hoboken, NJ, Chelsea Moriello and her partner, Bobby Bevins, of New Paltz, Christine Moriello, of New Paltz, NY and Isabella Rose Fulginiti of Valley Glen, CA; great grandson, Michael Robert Moriello-Bevins of New Paltz, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ralph Jenkins of New Paltz, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Kay Moriello of New Paltz, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Andrea Costa of New Paltz, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Philip and Margaret Costa of New Paltz, NY; and brother-in-law, Kevin Costa of Gardiner, NY.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from  4pm to 7pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial  will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, NY 12561.
