Mike Tyson will return to his former home of Catskill on Saturday, Nov. 1, to honor the man who helped shape his boxing career.
The “Celebration of Cus” pays tribute to his late trainer and legal guardian, Cus D’Amato, and will take over Main Street from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The street will be closed to traffic for the occasion, which will feature a mix of community festivities and a formal tribute attended by Tyson and fellow boxing figures such as Micky Ward and Vinny Paz. The afternoon will begin with food, music, and activities, leading into a commemorative program with special guests.
Tyson’s return holds deep personal significance, as D’Amato was instrumental in his rise from a troubled youth to a world champion. The event coincides with the 40th anniversary of D’Amato’s passing, a milestone Tyson acknowledged by expressing his continued appreciation for his mentor’s influence. The celebration will also spotlight the work of KO Boxing Gym, a local institution that carries on D’Amato’s legacy by supporting at-risk youth in the community. Organizers hope this event will serve as a catalyst for making the tribute an annual tradition.
The event is expected to draw a sizable crowd, and local officials encourage early arrival due to limited parking and street closures.
