New Paltz School District considers fees for public use of its athletic fields

Back of the net! Ulster County will hold its inaugural Future Stars Unity Cup on Saturday, June 6, combining a youth soccer tournament with a cultural fair at the Field of Dreams in New Paltz. The free, family-friendly event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 241 Libertyville Road, with a rain date of June 7. Co-hosted with the United Way of Ulster County, the tournament is timed one week before the start of the FIFA World Cup.

The event is open to players in four age divisions: under 8, under 10, under 12, and under 18. Registration is encouraged in advance at ulstercountyny.gov/FutureStarsCup. The “One Life Only” initiative, led by Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji, will serve as title sponsor. The initiative focuses on youth outreach, safety, and opportunity. Donations and sponsorship proceeds will benefit United Way of Ulster County programs.

Beyond the soccer competition, attendees can explore a youth cultural fair featuring local heritage projects, food vendors, and family activities throughout the day. County Executive Jen Metzger called the event “a celebration of the rich cultural diversity the game represents internationally and in our own communities.” Local businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring or vending can contact Sarah Kramer-Harrison, Director of Arts, Culture and Open Spaces, at skrh@ulstercountyny.gov.
