A house fire apparently caused by cardboard boxes burning in a fireplace kept Woodstock firefighters on scene well into the early morning hours of Sunday, May 24. The Woodstock Fire Department was dispatched at 7:49 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and the first arriving units reported a fully involved structure. Woodstock police and fire personnel confirmed all occupants had safely exited the home before units arrived.
Command requested mutual aid from multiple neighboring departments. Firefighters and equipment responded from West Hurley, Centerville-Cedar Grove, Mt. Marion, Sawkill, and Glasco. The Olive and Phoenicia fire departments covered the town during the incident. The Woodstock Police Department, New York State Police, Central Hudson Gas and Electric, the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, and the American Red Cross also assisted on scene, leading to the aforementioned determination of burning cardboard boxes in the fireplace starting the conflagration. No injuries were reported.
