A daylight shooting at a busy Kingston intersection left a driver seriously injured last week and led to the arrest of a 23-year-old city man, police said. Police identified the suspect as Knowledge R. Montgomery, who was charged with attempted murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree attempted assault.
Police said the shooting happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, when Montgomery allegedly approached a vehicle stopped at a red light near Flatbush Avenue and Tietjen Street and fired multiple rounds into the driver. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police said his injuries were serious but not fatal, and investigators believe he was the intended target.
Montgomery was arrested Friday, Feb. 6, after investigators located him at the Ramada Inn on Route 300 in Newburgh, according to police. He was arraigned Saturday, Feb. 7, in Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash, $200,000 secured bond, or $500,000 unsecured bond. Kingston Police said the investigation remains open and asked anyone with information to call the department at (845) 331-8404 or email detectives@kingston-ny.gov.
