In Olive, incumbent Democratic Supervisor Jim Sofranko is challenged by Republican/Conservative candidate Bob Fehring, while three vie for two town board seats.

Democrats Edwin Maldonado and Sarah Hemingway Lynch, and Republican/Conservative Ellen Gallivan are all first-time candidates for town board.

Incumbent Republican/Conservative Dawn Giuditta is challenged by Democrat Kimberly Daley for town clerk, while incumbent Highway Superintendent Brian Burns is unchallenged on the Democratic and Republican/Conservative lines.

Town Justice Timothy Cox, a Democrat, is unopposed.

Olive voters also have the following proposition on their ballot:

“Shall the annual contribution of the Town of Olive for the operating budget of the Olive Free Library Association be increased from $193,142 annually to $289,642 annually?”

In Shandaken, incumbent supervisor Peter DiSclafani seeks re-election on the Working Families line despite being defeated by Barbara Mansfield in the June Democratic primary.

Assessor Grace Grant, council members Elizabeth Kneissl and Robert Drake, and town justice Izaak Shwaiger, all Democrats, are running unopposed.

Shandaken voters also have the following proposition on their ballot:

“Shall the Town of Shandaken increase its annual contribution for the operating budget of the Morton Memorial Library by nineteen thousand seven hundred fifty ($19,750) dollars to the sum of seventy-nine thousand nine hundred seventy-five ($79,975) dollars annually; and shall the Town of Shandaken increase its annual contribution for the operating budget of the Phoenicia Library by thirty-four thousand seven hundred fifty ($34,750) dollars to the sum of two hundred thirty-four thousand five hundred ($234,500) dollars annually?”

Nick Henderson was raised in Woodstock starting at the age of three and attended Onteora schools, then SUNY New Paltz after spending a year at SUNY Potsdam under the misguided belief he would become a music teacher. He became the news director at college radio station WFNP, where he caught the journalism bug and the rest is history. He spent four years as City Hall reporter for Foster’s Daily Democrat in Dover, NH, then moved back to Woodstock in 2003 and worked on the Daily Freeman copy desk until 2013. He has covered Woodstock for Ulster Publishing since early 2014.
